About san shou

The most basic meaning of san shou - free hands is: barehand fighting without rules. The same term is used for combative competition formulas of various styles and organizations of Chinese martial arts. The specific rules can differ, but generally it is stand up fighting with use of hitting, kicking, sweeping, throwing and pushing opponent out from the fight area (or platform).

In 2009 yiquan was listed as one of important elements of non-material culture of Beijing by city government. Presently a list of 46 people representative for protecting and developing this heritage has been published. Among them 4 people related to martial arts - including master Yao Chengguang.

Stanley Tong - a well known movie director from Hong Kong announced a plan of making an Yiquan movie at Wang Yufang's birthday party in January 2010. In July 2011 he became a disciple of Yu Yongnian, and confirmed that plan. Source: Gongfuwang
