Yiquan and Xinhuizhang
Have just found a small article by Huang Jitao (supposedly Zhao Daoxin's student) about differences between yiquan and Zhao Daoxin's xinhuizhang: Article
Have not time to translate everything precisely, so just summary:
When Zhao was teaching he was explaining differences between xinhuizhang and yiquan.
Main four differences
1. Difference in training.
In yiquan zhan zhuang is a basis, which is used to "change strenght" for combat use. It can even be said, that without zhan zhuang there is no yiquan.
Zhao Doxin's zhan zhuang is completely different - it's slow movement zhan zhuang, which is auxiliary practice, mainly for health.
2. Difference in psychology
In yiquan mind work and images are used for developing strength.
In xinhuizhang practitioners body is put in situation of training in explosive manner, to develop issuing power "without awareness"
3. Difference in use
In yiquan tui shou is stressed. Tui shou and san shou are equally important.
In xinhuizhang tui shou is not advocated. It concentrates on using destructive hitting in fighting.
4. Difference in goal
In yiquan the goal of using strength is to throw opponent high and far.
In xinhuizhang the goal is destroying opponent's body with penentrating power.
Yiquan is Wang Xiagnzhai's innovation based on xingyiquan.
Xingyi-bagua is a synthesis of xingyiquan and baguazhang made by Zhang Zhankui. And xinhuizhang is developed by Zhao Daoxin from xingyi-bagua.
We should not think that xinhuizhang developed from yiquan. Those are independent systems, with only secondary kinship.
